Circuit Gilles Villeneuve’s famous Wall of Champions, at the tricky chicane at the top of the stretch leading to the start/finish line, claimed Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel an hour into morning practice for Sunday’s 42nd Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel locked his brakes on the entry of the chicane and simply couldn’t get his car back in shape. He hit the padded wall right at the bonjourquebec.com ad that’s placed there by the government of Quebec.
Vettel was unhurt; the same can’t be said for his car, which was a mess. Beautiful tire smudge he ground into the red-and-white padding, too.
The defending world champion should be back on the track for the 2 p.m. session, the day’s second and final 90-minute F1 practice.
